Wednesday's Scores, Standings and Highlights

Thunderstorms rolled in early in the 4:45 p.m. session, so the games did not get completed and the teams leading were given the victories.

The Pacers and the Lakers have clinched top spots in their respective conferences on the men's side. The Mystics hold a one-game lead on the Sky, with the Mystics having given the Sky their only defeat. The Sky would have to win both games on Thursday and the Mystics lose both games in order for the Sky to claim the top spot in the playoffs.

Hopefully the rain holds off on Thursday so we can complete the round-robin play.

Play of the Day
Maciej Makulec hit a layup with two seconds left on the clock to give the Celtics their first victory of the tournament in stunning fashion. Down by 5 points with about a minute to go, he made several key passes to bring his team back. With a timeout at the 0:05 mark, the Celtics ran a play that got Makulec the ball and he hit the game-winner. Makulec was picked up in a shrewd trade by the Celtics management in a late-season trade. The Celtics traded $3 million in cash and future considerations to get the fiery redhead shooter. That trade certainly paid off, and that's the play of the day

Here's a (late) photo of the Celtics' celebration.
